Re: Is Dolly Parton Pentecostal?

Give me a minute and I'll try find Dolly singing a gospel song from her Porter Wagoner days.

Re: Is Dolly Parton Pentecostal?

Thanks for "Just Someone I Used to Know."
That's one of my favorites.
To me it's old time country and evokes real emotions.
I realize it doesn't say anything about dogs or trucks or Mama or cheatin' or jail or trains or drinkin' or Jesus but to me it seems to be an oldie and a goodie. I guess it's an age thing. My other favorites are Wildwood Flower, Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain, Faded Love, and I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry.

Re: Is Dolly Parton Pentecostal?

We used to watch the Porter Wagoner show on black and white tv when Norma Jean was his "girl singer." First time we saw and heard Miss Dolly we thought it was a joke. But, over the years we've really grown to love her and her music. We've seen her in person once several years ago.

I remember years ago she was being interviewed and the subject of her religion came up. About all I remember was her saying that she didn't want to go up to the front of the church to pray because of the boys there but later she went off by herself and got "saved." If I remember correctly, she actually used the "saved" word in the tv interview.

Listen to the words of "Daddy Was an Old Time Preacher Man." You can almost see it and feel it.

I remember several years ago on one of the Country Awards Shows. Dolly sang "He's Alive." She had a choir backing her up. Before the song she said, "Now as my mother would say, I hope you get a blessing out of this song." Something happened at that awards show. An anointing came upon Dolly and that choir. People in the audience were raising their hands and you could hear people rejoicing in the Lord.

I would never presume to judge Dolly and her experience in the Lord. Like all of us, that is something private just between her and her Lord.

Ah yes. The tried and true lost love format. I like that kind of music too, but not too much. I start to get depressed if I listen to too much of it.
