2 And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

3 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.

4 And when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.

5 For the LORD had said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people: I will come up into the midst of thee in a moment, and consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.

6 And the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by the mount Horeb.

And?
Exo 33:4 When the people heard this troubling word they mourned; no one put on his ornaments.
Exo 33:5 For the Lord had said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites, 'You are a stiff-necked people. If I went up among you for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your ornaments, that I may know what I should do to you.' "

It was about mourning...

BTW OP, here God commandes to put on sackclothe and wallow in ashes....do you obey that command?

Jer 6:26 O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

Re: Folks COMMANDED to Remove Ornaments.

OP do you preach these truths in your church ... about the jewelry God asked them to get ... and how they continued to wear it .... after they repented over the calf?

Do you need a more in-depth bible study? A quick course in hermeneutics?

I'm especially interested in how liberal Pentecostal pastors/preachers/teachers among us respond when presented with those scriptures by conservatives.
This is one verse where we pick and choose. Most of us like to wear apparel even though it is in the same VERSE as gold and plaiting hair, which also we do.

I don't know. Someone around here was advocating we not wear apparel. I suggested she go first.

Re: Folks COMMANDED to Remove Ornaments.

There are a lot of really good post on this thread proving why it is so important that you seek out your own salvation with fear and trembling. You can prove whatever doctrine you wish according to what scriptures you choose.

OR you can search your heart as to your motive for what you DO and what you DON'T do.

Your motive for not doing something can be just as wrong as your motive for doing something.
