Re: Folks COMMANDED to Remove Ornaments.

Jewelry to me is a ring, bracelet, necklace, brooches, earrings. Timepieces, hair pins and tie tacks no. The only jewelry I wear is my wedding and engagement rings.

I don't consider functional jewelry.

Ornaments is also defined as:

śahărôn - a round pendant for the neck: - ornament, round tire like the moon.

‛ekes - a fetter; hence an anklet: - stocks, tinkling ornament.

pe'êr - an embellishment, that is, fancy head dress: - beauty, bonnet, goodly, ornament, tire.

Allowing the wearing of "functional" jewelry and not ornamental jewelry is a tenet of the UPCI, NOT the Bible.

It's a line that was drawn. otherwise we wouldn't allow
gold buttons or belt buckles like the mennonites.
Would you rather it be extreme like that ???

SOme old timers didn't believe in ANY medicine or doctors. all of it
was related to witchcraft & sorcery in the bible. That's the extreme side of it

I don't have a problem with the UPC allowing functional jewelry. I'm just pointing out that the Bible doesn't make such a distinction. Nor does the Bible forbid the wearing of jewelry, generally speaking.

How do you think the Jewish women wore earrings?

Are you answering my question with a question?

The Bible not only doesn't condemn jewelry, but talks about it in a favorable light on more than a few occasions. I believe in modesty in reference to jewelry, and that is the rule of the day, not scriptural mandates against jewelry--because there aren't any.

As for body piercings...whether they are sinful or not hasn't really come up in our household, since they are decidedly unladylike. No other explanation is needed.
