Sorry, Ferdinand, the scripture the preacher posted didn't say take off jewelry. It said "ornaments', which is defined as "trappings".
My question is, how does he define trappings?
Sounds to me like it could be a fancy necktie, a watch, a belt, etc.
I will be honest my friend. I am having a hard time caring.
my walk with God and the standards by which I live my wife are neither up for negotiation, nor manipulation and i dont really need to have a debate about a scripture that was posted without commentary....
thats the funny part for me. this one didnt even start with a "There take that you liberal!"
it was just and OT scripture about a particular incident. and its 11 pages of angst. fun times in forumland!

LOL! You okay today, Ferd?!
Not that you care, (lol) but isn't the lesson to be learned from Exodus that they left Egypt with wealth, used it to build another God to worship (Ex 32:31) and now they have their finery, which he wants then to put off in order to humble themselves and start over. He wants to take them to the land of milk and honey, but not with the same attitude they were in at the moment.
The LOVE of money is the ROOT of all evil - isn't it?

Ferd,
I think you took that thread about medication being equal to witch craft too seriously. Take a chill pill.
Besides when someone highlights a portion of a verse without any context it can be assumed that the point was.

Yeah & people don't clue in that every standard whether we agree with them or not are rooted in Biblical principle.
Ornaments? Why does one need them?
Because a woman says "I want to look "attractive!" "I want to be "noticed!"
Men are just as prone to this as well.
1Jo 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 1Jo 2:16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1Jo 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.
Well, yes and yes. The Bible clearly speaks favorably of the first and never condemns the second.
Gifts for Rebekah.
Genesis 24:22
When the camels had finished drinking, the man took out a gold nose ring weighing a beka and two gold bracelets weighing ten shekels.
Genesis 24:30
As soon as he had seen the nose ring, and the bracelets on his sister's arms, and had heard Rebekah tell what the man said to her, he went out to the man and found him standing by the camels near the spring.
Genesis 24:47
"I asked her, 'Whose daughter are you?' "She said, 'The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.' "Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms,
Look at all those things Israel is wearing. God is taking it away as a punishment, not to purify them.
Isaiah 3:18-23
In that day the Lord will snatch away their finery: the bangles and headbands and crescent necklaces, the earrings and bracelets and veils, the headdresses and ankle chains and sashes, the perfume bottles and charms, the signet rings and nose rings, the fine robes and the capes and cloaks, the purses and mirrors, and the linen garments and tiaras and shawls.
`adiy (ad-ee'); from OT:5710 in the sense of trappings; finery; generally an outfit; specifically, a headstall: KJV - X excellent, mouth, ornament.
(Biblesoft's New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers)
Trappings
Articles of dress or adornment, especially accessories.
Headstall
a thin flat strip of flexible material that is worn around the body or one of the limbs (especially to decorate the body)
They were told to remove the ornaments for a specific reason. Because of their attitude, not because the wearing of them were a sin.

Kind of remind you of opening up a lion's cage and throwing in a steak?
Ferd, notice the title of the thread, then the scripture that was posted. Of course he wanted discussion.
