Ok, enough with the jokes. I know what you are saying, and I agree that all the spirituality and all that nonsense isn't part of pharmacology these days. At least not in terms of the companies producing all these medicines. Still doesn't change where it came from, though. Did you know that these companies are still going into the Amazon, trying to learn from these native medicine men and witch doctors? The industry is still going to the source for new discoveries, along with the work they are doing in labs that have nothing to do with medicines discovered in the Amazon.
the question is Rico, what is your point?
so scientists are looking for plants that process chemicals in a way that might be benificial to humans and they are interviewing those closest to these plants, people who have some experience with them....
so if you take a liniar view of history and move backwards in time, drug makers today have an historic connection to occult pharmacology.
but what is the point? the only point you can have is that drugs we use today are tetherd to witchcraft.
and we are saying that is just silly. there is no connection between proper use of modern medicine and ancient pharmocological occultic practice.
we all will agree that illicit drug use today has the same spirits associated with it that it had 2000 years ago. Witchcraft is alive and well in 2008.
so, I ask again. what is your point?

Illicit drug use. Define that for me, would you? If smoking a joint is evil and involves spirits, is it then not evil if a pharmaceutical company chemically produces the same pain relieving effects as marijuana? Does the fact that a pharmaceutical company was able to transform it into a pill make it legitimate? How about something like morphine? Isn't morphine a chemically produced version of heroin? Is the heroin evil to use but the morphine ok because it was produced in a lab?
Gus, they may be connected, but they are two separate professions. I know it's hard for you to be objective because you are in the profession. That's understandable. I happen to know OM and know a little about how his mind works. He's not one to simply write off scripture as being irrelevant, especially NT scripture. In his mind you guys are saying this scripture isn't important and doesn't apply to us today, even though the very definition of the word suggests it is important and relevant.
I am not just saying they are connected, I am saying that the profession you are describing is a doctor, not a pharmacist.
Just because it sounds like the same word doesn't mean it is. Yeah, pharmacists concoct things but we are
G5332
φαρμακεύς
pharmakeus
far-mak-yoos'
From φάρμακον pharmakon (a drug, that is, spell giving potion); a druggist (“pharmacist”) or poisoner, that is, (by extension) a magician: - sorcerer.
This is what doctors do, not pharmacists....
There is plenty of overlap, but the fact is that this really describing the practitioner here.

FERD,
1. First off, this a pretty cool and thoughtfully challenging post.
2. If you have experienced a personal benefit from sustained ingestation of controlled substances (sythethic chemical compounds), I am not against you or your pragmatism in pursuit of options available to you.
3. IN YOUR OPINION, is entering into a chronic medication management regime God's methodology for bringing his REMEDY to his people that call upon his name for healing?
If it is NOT, it is a substitute conceived from the wisdom of men as an alternate approach to a God-supplied healing.

It's the use of God-supplied wisdom. God can and does heal both ways.

Gus, he is trying to keep the conversation focused on pharmacists. You guys keep throwing doctors into the mix and he is pointing out this scripture doesn't mention doctors.
This is something that many Apostolics can't seem to get, but what would you expect from people who like to attack rather than discuss.

Bro,
Whoever said that Doctors and Pharmacists do the same must not know what they're talking about:
Here is the real deal.
What doctors are, and do, in the 21st century is thus not much different to what Osler espoused 100 years ago. Their tasks are embodied in the questions that preoccupy patients when consulting doctors: What is wrong with me? (diagnosis); What will happen to me? (prognosis); What can we do? (management plan, priorities and coordination); and Who will do it and be responsible? (competent, up-to-date and experienced practitioners, who are indemnified, and whose expertise is underpinned by broad and rigorous training).
In this context, the medical profession should welcome task transfer and better use of the skills of the various health care providers, as long as it occurs within the boundaries of team care, and as long as quality and safety outcomes are established.
The enactment of the Productivity Commission’s proposals has the potential to realign health care delivery for the 21st century. But it will require wide consultation, a “bottom-up” rather than “top-down” approach, and a modicum of goodwill. It should not be the slippery slope to doctor pretenders.
What does a Pharmacist do?
• Pharmacists prepare, compound, and dispense medicines prescribed by Doctors, Veterinarians, and Dentists.
• They advise customers or patients on the use and interaction of medicines and over-the-counter products.
• They also advise Doctors, Veterinarians, and other prescribers on the proper selection and effect of drugs.
• They may also maintain patient-medication profiles, buy and sell non pharmaceutical supplies, and hire and supervise personnel.
• Some specialize in pure research.
