True! How many people do you know that qualify as a TRUE friend? I might have two or three! The rest are regular friends!

I've had it happen a few times in the past couple of years. It's not fun. I even had one that hurt me so deeply that I laid in bed crying over it and was very sad about it for quite a while. In fact, when I think of it it still makes me sad to think of.

Another one stayed with us for a while and used us...

And the other...well...

Actually, it wasn't funny when it happened.

Maybe so!

A real friend is someone that you can not talk to for years, and yet the minute you start talking it's as if no time has passed at all!
My relationship with my best friend is like that. We grew up together as well, except we were forced together as children because her mother married my grandfather. She's the closest thing I have to a sister because we hated each other for the first few years of knowing each other and would get into major fights. I can still remember hearing her name for the first time when I was four years old.

It was not till some time after 30 that I came to the conclusion that my mom is one of my best friends. She has always been there for me...and forgave me despite the fact that I have been horrible to her so many times.

Re: Fake Friends/real Friends:

You know, I don't think friends are "FAKE", I think they are just human. Fair weather friends are useful for a season. The friends that are true friends stick by you even when they know your faults and they disagree with some of your positions.

The best friends I have ever had have failed me at one time or another as I have failed them. Many times we do it because we are not paying attention or can't see outside our own box.

My dearest friends are those who have been with me through every season of my life and still love me. And I am friend to those who I have seen through the many and diverse seasons of theirs.

Blessings, Rhoni

It's funny you would say that fair weathered friends are useful for a season. Fair weather friends are ones who use you!!!

Of course best friends are going to let you down....and you will let them down...but with those people it was a learning experience that you go through together and come back together again closer than ever.
