Re: Baptism, DOES IT REALLY WASH AWAY SIN??

I repented of my sins and I receivd the baptism of the Holy Ghost...before water baptism.

If my sins weren't "washed away" until my baptism....why did God choose to dwell and abide in an unforgiven and unclean temple? Why was I told to rejoice and praise God for forgiving me? Why did I began to weep and dance at the altar?

I believe water baptism is absolutely commanded in Scripture....but I don't compartmentalilze the process of salvation.

Can you give Scripture for this "loan"? lol

I firmly believe that water baptism in Jesus name is a covenantal act signifying the washing away of sin and identifying us with Christ's burial. I believe it is a COMMAND and to neglect it is to be in rebellion. But I don't know if it "washes" away any "sin substance". That rings of baptismal regeneration.

Peter seems to be in emphatic agreement (1 Peter 3:21). Whether he's talking about it being pointless to wash off "real" dirt or some imagined "sin substance" - he says "NOT..."

So..........using the same exact scripture you are referencing in your post...........does that now mean that someone can have their sins forgiven and still not be saved until they get baptized? Just throwing this out for discussion.

Re: Baptism, DOES IT REALLY WASH AWAY SIN??

He came to this world to save us from????

Sin and death, perhaps?

It's a desperate attempt ...

Saved in this context of course ... we mean regereration ... initial salvation ....

In some circles one can never be saved ... never.

Just more hoops.

I suspect Rico has another question or two behind his question. But if he wants me to give him a precise answer I demand first a precise question.

How can our hypothetical sinner have received "forgiveness" for his sins and not be saved?

Even if he had to get that forgiveness through water baptism or by crawling on his knees up the Scalinata della Trinitŕ dei Monti, if he received "forgiveness" under anyone's regime, then he is saved according to that regime.

For my understanding of the Gospel, if he received the forgiveness of sins through faith in the work that Jesus Christ did for him, and he has faith in Christ's work of salvation, then our hypothetical is "saved."

Forgiveness of sins = salvation (Matthew 1:21).

Ooops! I just realized it's 1:15 in the morning. I have to take calls tomorrow, so I need to get off here. I will be sure to check on your answer, Pel, but it will have to be tomorrow. Have a good night, Bro.
