What about physical fitness?

Having been to many conferences through the years, including camp meetings and such, I have noticed the vast amount of over weight people in this movement. Please no one take offense. I was pretty large until losing all this weight. I do not mean to put anyone on the spot of anything.

Why do you all think that being over weight is common here? Is it all the buffetts? LOL Just curious. I was at church last week looking around and about 90-95% of the people there are overweight or not physically fit at all. I am not picking on over weight people there are skin and bone people in this movement too. Just curious why you all think that physical fitness it not a common thing in this movement? It might only be the people I know, but what say ye?

Re: What about physical fitness?

I think that it is a definite problem. My pastor is very vocal about needed to be healthy and excercise. He still does at 60 years old. In our church we do have quite a few atheletes and health nuts, but also our fair share of overweight.

I think that the US is a tough place to live at times. McDonalds on every other corner and Starbucks on the others make it quick and easy to eat unhealthy. I have heard some people say that it only hurts themselves, when they eat bad and don't exercise. The truth is it hurts us all. I don't think every person needs six pack abs and ripped arms. But I feel that we need to be healthier than we are now. All we are doing is showing bad habits to our children. My wife is a soda drinker. Mainly she drinks Coca Cola. My 2 year old daughter has started drinking it too. I have made a big contention with my wife to at least move to Diet, No caff soda and move my daughter too. Eventually, hopefully sooner than later, my wife and dauther will stop altogether. It is just unsafe.

My father, in Tn, works with a man that is a tri-athlete. The man is as healthy as anyone my father knows. Last week the man had to have emergency open heart surgery or he would have died. That kinda stuff puts things in perspective for me. I gotta be healthy to prolong my life for myself and for the future generations that follow, like kids and grand kids.

Because some people use food to alter their moods, since Apostolics don't use drugs or drink, we do the legal substance, over eat and eat the wrong foods.

We celebrate and fellowship over food.

The Lord is coming soon, no need to take care of ourselves.

Priorities, should be on praying, fasting , winning souls, not going to the gym.

These are the common reasons.

I had to cut sodas out when I found out how much pure sugar is in a 12 oz. can. If you took everything else out but the pure sugar, there would be an inch of sugar in the bottom of the can. I was drinking them in big containers and fountain drinks all the time.

no doubt! I am not the healthiest either, but I have lost about 40lbs+ and workout 6 days a week. I still eat things I shouldn't but I work out hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle over all. I think this needs to be taught to the teens and up along with better teaching about money, family, sex and all the other stuff that the church and parents fall short of teaching.

We stand on soap boxes every Sunday and scream about our bodies being the temple of the HG as reasons for no tatoos, no makeup, cutting hair and what have ya. But the stuff we put into our bodies are hurting us a ton worse than what we put on our bodies. IMO

I was told you can keep 10lbs off just be cutting out sodas
or going to diet drinks

Re: What about physical fitness?

Then there are all the couples who look so much better before they are married.... then completely let themselves go after. THIS seems to happen in the church far more than not.
