well it wasn't but in the hands of the wrong individuals it would probably become fornication really quick.

We were also taught that we could not drink out of the same coke bottle or glass with a guy; that it simulated fornication. Someone somewhere had some serious problems, me thinks.

Re: UPC Culture
The sad thing is that this kind of thing can really mess some people up. I mean look at some of the people that post here.

We had a continues stream of visiting preachers who said ANY kissing was equal to fornication. I hear one guy make a comment that went "they're holding hands? That's ok. Their married now.".

Re: UPC Culture
Oh yes, and on the same general subject: Is the UPC the only organization that (usually) expects a couple to ask the pastor permission to marry someone? I hear this over and over again but have to believe that more conservative AoG and Baptist churches expect the same thing.

I know many non-denom churches that have been involved heavily in the "shepherding" movement and the pastor had to make everyone's decisions on everything from who to date to how many children to have. It's not just UPC.

I have usually heard this as it relates to bible colleges were students were expected to ask permission to date and marry.
I've always assumed that the more rural the community, the more common this is. For instance (and he is welcome to refute this if my prediction is wrong) I would expect Wholehearted to give (or not give) his blessings to any single people in his church who wanted to tie the knot.
