My mom's building has damage. She lives roughly 25 miles from Chino Hills. It doesn't look catastrophic, but we're praying that it's just cosmetic and not structural.
Praxeus, I'm assuming all is well with you and there's no damage where you are...
I live 20 miles from Chino Hills. I was getting ready for work when I heard a BOOM! and then the building started shaking for about 4-6 seconds.
I've been through some big earthquakes (Sylmar, Whittier Narrows, Northridge), and though they're scary, I'll take an earthquake over a tornado or hurricane any day.

We had an earthquake in Southern Illinois when I was about 11. I was laying in the floor reading "Tom Sawyer" and I thought our furnace in the basement was getting ready to explode. The whole house started shaking and moving; I'll never forget that feeling. And then of course.........we thought it was the end of the world.

Everything is fine here. Even during the NR earthquake we weren't that effected, though the power was out for almost a day or so

Even the Northridge quake felt just like a violant rocking back and forth. The worse kinds are the up and down quakes. Our buildings are built to sway side to side
I remember Northridge quake like it was yesterday. That was a 6.7 quake and MAN...160 miles away and it woke me up. That one lasted longer and the devestation that followed was apparent. The one in San Francisco during the World Series a feeeew years ago was in the 7's.
They say California is due for a major earthquake (99% certain) in the next 30 years.
