Hey, I'm related to the Famous Sergeant York!!!!! And, my ancestors go all the way back to England in the Middle Ages! AND, AND, AND, ELVIS is my second cousin by marriage. (Or something like that)

I actually have a funny story about famous relatives. A couple of years ago I was in Worb, Switzerland and I met an old gentleman there who spoke very little English. I was talking with his wife and he would interject about every 30 minutes, "Have you talked to your cousin Laura Bush?" I would just smile and say "no". Laura Bush is also a descendant of the Baron, and threre had just been a write up about it in a paper or magazine in Worb.

item #79 for those tracking it.

The craziest thing is that there is another person with her exact first and last name! Our last name is not all that common, the "ings" versus "ins" variation is pretty rare. The other woman with her name is African-American.

I can definitely prove the Sergeant York part! As for Elvis...I don't think you can actually become a cousin by marriage. But:

My aunt Judy on my mother's side married a Presley. Rumor has it he was a cousin to Elvis, but I haven't personally confirmed it with genealogy or anything.

WOw, strange! There isn't another person with my married name, and it sure makes getting email addresses easy!

One time someone asked me what my last name was, I said "Ok, but it's long", they started writing "LONG", I said, "UMM no I will spell it"...

We call him Sarge for short........
