Jesus a community organizer, Pilate a Governor?

“If you want change, you want the Democratic Party. Barack Obama was a community organizer like Jesus, who our minister prayed about. Pontius Pilate was a governor.”

So said Rep. Steve Cohen, D-TN on the House floor.

Was Jesus a community organizer? Or a community divider?(Matthew 10:33-35)

I believe Jesus was a freethinker, he stood against the Pharisees and their many laws, that did nothing but keep them further from God! If Jesus walked earth today he be cast out again. The many who claim to be followers of Jesus would be the first ones to stand against his radical ideals!

How could Jesus be a free thinker when He said He came to do the Father's will, and not his own?

Liberal gobbleee-gook.

Jesus was not against the law. He was against the mis-application and the adding to of the law. He was also against the law as a means of salvation.

A free thinker is one who thinks "outside the box" which is exactly what "being about the Fathers business" is all about. The "thinking" of the day was "conformity"- "wash your hands before you eat", "no work on the sabbath". etc. Much of what we see today. Just go along... conform, maintain the status quo. Do what you are told. Keep the letter of the law and ignore its spirit (its true purpose). Don't question those in authority.

Jesus broke out of that mode and He encourages us to do the same. He did virtually everything the "law of the Pharisees" forbad Him to do. Their law had become a hinderance to the Fathers business. In fact, it had become counter-productive to tha Fathers will. I'm all for confomity, as long as that conformity doesn't impede the work of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ- which, in fact, brings liberty rather than the bondage that the "law of the Pharisees offers.

Matthew 5- 17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished. 19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Re: Jesus a community organizer, Pilate a Governor

Jesus was our perfect example...he did not mix with the politics of His day. He came preaching and teaching a message far different than most preach today...a message of love and hope, a message of freedom and heaaling, a message of compasson and forgiveness, a message strangely different from their street corner preachers that always condemned.
Am I saying Jesus condoned sin? NO, a thousand times no...He preached the evils of blindly following the traditions of the Talmud and tried to turn people´s hearts and eyes to heavenly matters...(just a thought)

But His disciple, Paul, spoke quite a bit about government........if that's the type of 'politics' you are refering to.
