Promotion of Homosexuality in our Schools

Greetings:

I realize this has been discussed probably several times on this forum. However I have a few thoughts & questions regarding the promotion of homosexuality in our schools.

1) Recently the Columbia Public Schools (Missouri) promoted and allowed the homecoming queen to be ushered and presented to her school mates by her homosexual girlfriend.

2) On the same date the Columbia School's Board of Education President wrote a newspaper editorial (Columbia Tribune)proclaiming her homosexuality.

As a discussion topic what are your thoughts on this issue.

I addressed through the the local blog various reasons why I felt the promotion of homosexuality through our schools was wrong and went further to address that as a political respresentative of the people that a School Board President has the obligation for high ethics, moral responsiblity, and character, and that using her position to promote this topic was wrong wrong wrong.

As such the blog almost unanimously stated that I was a bigot, homophobic, scared, fearful, that I hated Catholics (why, beats me) and the list went on and on.....

Where are we as christians willing to draw the line on this topic?

When are we as christian going to stand up to the immoral presentation of homosexuality in our schools and stop leeting them us our kids as the agenda?

Where is the line?

Thoughts?

Jesus said we would be hated for His sake. It is time Christians started standing up for truth and taking the persecution and sometimes even prosecution for it. We are to stand against sin and stand up for Jesus.

It's time to quit majoring on minors, and major on majors and things that the bible speaks out agains't like Homosexuality we need to take a stand on.
We fuss over things we can't prove by the word, and things that we have bible for we sit back and be quiet about ,but we like to fuss over petty nonessential matters.

Re: Promotion of Homosexuality in our Schools

When someone says "take a stand", it is important to know exactly what they mean by that.
For instance, I work at a school myself. My immediate supervisor (we are the only two employees in the IT department) is as gay as a parade. What pray tell would be my "stand" against him? Do I always walk 10 feet behind him? Do I let it know whenever someone is in ear shot that I "most assuredly disagree with HIS lifestyle!"? -As loud as possible of course.

I understand that the issue is not to "accept" said tendencies, but how can WE condemn such a person when we don't love our own neighbor as our self?

I look at it like this....

Gay people are tax payers. When dealing with publically funded education that gives them some degree of equal voice. As a Christian I believe that it's important to take a stand against homosexual activity in my own life and church.

As for taking a stand against homosexual input in education the answer is simple, send children to private Christian schools. I'm planning on sending my son to a local Catholic school.

When I saw the title of this thread yesterday, I thought it would be referring to this.

Not against people Randy, but against sin. Christians should not be called haters because they call homosexuality what it is, a sin. I don't mean we should treat people badly, we should love them, but be able to speak against sin.

Re: Promotion of Homosexuality in our Schools

If I lived in Columbia, my kids wouldn't go to public school. And I think you were right to speak out against the School Board President promoting homosexuality. Most people can't understand that you can love people and just not agree with their lifestyle, thus the homophobic comments. Stand up for the right anyway.

Re: Promotion of Homosexuality in our Schools

Sadly, I think this will become more the norm as days go by. I think the only options to avoid it are homeschooling or private schools, which can both be expensive and/or time-consuming. But if you're going to keep your kids in public schools, you will face this kind of thing. I think it's almost inevitable.
