I think this will be a very tough decision for her. Most think she'd jump at the opportunity to have probably the highest cabinet office, but the Clinton's love politics. She has to be a little torn on whether she wants the prestige and power that comes with being S of State or whether she wants to fight the political battles like healtcare that now will be passed.
Where would she have more influence given the fact that Dem's are going to be able to pass legislation?
True. Plus she'll have to negotiate things she doesn't agree with and she'll be competing w/Biden for leverage. And she wants to be President and Sec State limits her ability to work that angle. She may want to distance herself from O in the future and that's hard to do when you're one of his peeps. I'll not be surprised if she declines and it goes to Kerry.

During the Democratic campaign for the party nomination, I felt like her positions on foreign policy issues (such as Iraq) were more pragmatic than Obama's. She even took heat from the far left for not being as stridently anti-Iraq war, and not eagerly pushing for an immediate pullout, as they wanted her to be.
She could have pandered to the far left like some of the other Democratic candidates did during the campaign ( like Obama), but she chose not to. My level of respect for her increased a lot because of that.
Actually, her withdrawal timeline was shorter than Obama's.
She pressed for removal of ALL troops.
Obama pressed for responsible removal of ALL COMBAT troops.
McCain was right when he told his supporters to "listen to Obama's words".

Do you have any references for any of this stuff, Mike?
That's not how I remember it at all, although I could be mistaken in how I remember it.

The way I remember it (withouth going back to look) is that Hillary was never as forceful about withdrawing troops from Iraq quickly. I thought she was more measured in her responses to questions about Iraq in the Democratic debates. Obama has been for ending the war as quickly as possible.

Richardson Calls Hillary Clinton on Iraq Flip-Flop
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA -- New Mexico Governor and Democratic Presidential candidate Bill Richardson today issued the following statement on Senator Hillary Clinton's drastic change to her position on the Iraq war:
"Senator Clinton's statement that we could 'certainly get all the troops out within a year' is a stunning flip-flop from what she has been saying all along. She consistently has called for leaving troops in Iraq to fight al-Qaida, train Iraqis, and protect U.S. assets. Has that suddenly been abandoned? If so, why has she changed her mind?
"In a September debate, she said that she could not commit to getting our troops out in five years, let alone in one year. Has anything changed about the logistics besides her position in the polls? It is clear that she is responding directly to my latest ad and my statements that she repeatedly has called for leaving thousands of troops in Iraq indefinitely. Rather than defending her position, apparently she simply has changed it."
Since entering the race, Governor Richardson consistently has called for bringing all of our troops home from Iraq, a monumental diplomatic effort to reach a political reconciliation that could be enforced by a multinational peacekeeping force, and a donor conference to infuse the capital necessary to rebuild Iraq.
Well, I'm not a Hillary fan nor an Obama fan.
Be prepared for several years of things we just don't like and don't agree with.
But, in my opinion, Hillary is as qualified as anybody else, and probably more qualified than many others, for a position like that which is not too many heart beats away from the president.
Sam, that is a very mature way of looking at things!
However, I believe Obama has been consistent on his call for 16 or 17 month phased withdrawal of combat troops.
I am biased and could be wrong.
You?
Biased?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
