Seven Days of Prayer... Woo Hoo!! :)

An Apostolic Pastor from Texas challenges his church members to engage in 7 days of prayer with their spouse, for a minumum of 10 minutes a day.

He also told all to show up next Sunday to get the reason behind his advice.

What are your thoughts on this?

Is this Pastor out of line?

Is this a burden on married couples to have to set aside "quality time" like this every day?

Will the Pastor get adequate participation in this?

Can prayer become "legalistic"?

Re: Seven Days of Prayer... Woo Hoo!! :)

I saw that the "Seven days of Sex" thread has been the busiest thread on AFF the past few days, getting over 9,500 views and 600 comments so far.

I guess was a bit surprised that a thread on that topic would generate so much participation, so I decided to do a more “sanctified” thread, and see how much participation we get.

(And yes, this is all tongue-in-cheek )

Great idea! We shall see if interest in prayer even comes close to sex. Prayer can get legalistic if it is entered into void of faith and or love.

For prayer to become legalistic, it would have to be that an individual was just going through the motions. Like the Muslims, Buddhists, Hindis, Roman Catholics, Mormons or Southern and Independent Baptists, just going through traditional repetitions of words.

I know you started this thread TIC, TR, but this is an excellent point!

Can prayer become legalistic? I think it asolutely can.

WHen you tell someone they must pray a certain number of days for a set period of time, I think it can become just as EB says - vain repetition.

Does all prayer have to be on your knees?

Can you pray as you drive or walk down the halls at work?

Do those count?

Do you have pray out loud for God to hear it?

I don't really have anything pertinent to add right now, but I would feel conviction for not posting on this thread.

What an awesome idea. I would hope all apostolics pray everyday already.

Then there's that...perhaps the Apostolic Pastor's name was Paul:

"But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word" (Acts 6:4).

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints" (Ephesians 6:18).

"Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?" (1 Thessalonians 3:10).

"We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you" (Colossians 1:3).

"Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God" (Colossians 4:12).

"Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer...." (1 Corinthians 7:5a).

"Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually" (1 Chronicles 16:11).

"Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17
