Re: We're Not Putting X-Mas Trees Up!
Brother Beninca, even “dressing up” for church is a pagan practice. Originally Christians were very plain and common people who met in homes and worshipped informally. This was Christian custom for nearly 250 or so years. When the Roman state mandated that all worship was to take place in a building, Christians were forced by law to “dress up”. Reason being, the state sponsored religion of Rome made all Christian clerics officials of the state religion, as the pagan priests and public officials were. It was a dishonor to the office to approach any official in common clothing, therefore any Christian not “dressed up” to meet the official clergy man in the pulpit was escorted out of the congregation, even by force if the cleric requested such…and many did.
Do you, dress up for church like the pagans did?
