He has 20 years experience and some places will still hire him without a degree. But more and more places are saying you have to have a degree or they won't even look at you. What is wrong with this picture? Also, the job I used to do in a smaller town, I am no longer qualified to do because I do not have more college behind my belt. It does not matter what college I have as far as subject. There is just a certain amount required...it can be in underwater basket weaving. So, an underwater basket weaver is qualified but I, who have experience, am not.
I find it ironic that liberals, who mostly run colleges, who are supposed to be so "compassionate" towards poverty are getting these jobs all buttoned up so you must have a degree to get them.

Yes, and educational discrimination. Why is this not wrong? I can understand the requirements for a doctor or something. But when someone has clear experience lack of a degree should not be held against them. It is a form of discrimination and yet one that is entirely accepted without a peep.

I have the job I have now because of the experience, not because I have a degree!
I understand!

Yes I was a part time firefighter and went through the same fireschool that full time firefighters go through but several times was passed up for full time .I had 5 years experience and was top of the list after testing three times.Always passed up for someone with no experience but was a paramedic.

Re: Progress??
I also like the idea of apprenticeships. There are a lot of jobs that take some training that people could easily learn. Like pharmacy technician for example. They used to do on the job training but are now moving over to schooled people. So now, people who may be very well suited for such a thing but are unable to go to school because of time and/or price are out of the loop.

I imagine they would need a certain amount of paramedics on the team?

It is true ,but often times it is amatter of money.[and I do understand that]but I was an intermediate EMT the only difference is a Paramedic can administer Drugs.

Wouldn't they have to pay a paramedic more?
