But if the person was UPC or apostolic, then all of a sudden it's no longer just an individual decision; instead, people would rather speculate about the "oppressive, legalistic, spiritually abusive conditions" they must have grown up in in the UPC/Apostolic church, blah blah blah.

It's an interesting double standard.
Whoah, TR. We basically posted the same thing at the same time.

Re: Kings of Leon

Is it even worth it? Yes, all denominations have issues. Why in the world is that the fall back anytime a legitimate issues about the UPC/Oneness Pentecostalism is mentioned? This is getting really old. You guys know the issues exist but instead attack those who discuss them.

DG, I have discussed issues in the UPC even here. That is not the point. The point is that when you read a thread like this and people take a story like this and fall back on using it to attack the org, or say what do you expect from the org, it does not make sense. This sort of thing happens everyday in other orgs. For every big name person in music who is involved in a worldy lifestyle who was raised UPC, you have 100 that was raised Baptist. I just fail to see the connection. It seems to me that you have some who wait for just these sorts of opportunities to take shots at the org, whether it's logical or not. (I'm not saying that is true about everybody who said things on this particular thread)

Yeah, I see that.
That could mean we kinda think alike.

(...which, when I think about it, might be a little scary. )

Bingo.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed this.

---------------
It's to the point now where, on certain threads, I'm thinking in the back of my mind: "I wonder how long before SoAndSo comes in and makes some negative or snarky comment about the org?"....

... then when I'm browsing through the thread maybe an hour later, voila!! ... there's SoAndSo, making the most of another opportunity to do their UPC/Oneness bashing thing.

It really gets so predictable after a while.

Re: Kings of Leon

Incidentally, all of this Kings of Leon talk made me interested enough to go hear their music. They are definitely talented. They seem a bit strange, but the talent is there and their lead vocalist has a nice voice. I hope they find their way back to God regardless.

Re: Kings of Leon

On a serious note... We were told "The youth are the fire of the church..."
That meant that we had to do a circus act every Sunday night, and then
the adults would follow suit. I'm not upset about anything. I used to think
like that. I don't claim to be enlightened. I just see things more clearly.
Anyway, I told a friend "If the youth are the fire of the church, does that
mean it's okay to let the fire die out when we are adults?" LoL I didn't
get a response.

Just to clear things, up, not all bad came from my youth group. There are several ministers including John Ragsdale and his uncle Tim Freeman of Bunch and Breeze.
