I read the funniest story last night in Chicken Soup for the Soul Christmas Edition.
I'll condense it for you, but the jest of it is:
This woman was telling the story of how her brothers, sisters, nieces nephews, parents and all always get together at Christmas time every year.
They eat a big Christmas dinner and then send the grandkids to the basement where they put together their own version of a re-enactment of the Nativity story which they later perform for the adults.
So this one year, the kids were adjurned (sp?) to the basement. They made their usual trips upstairs to get things like tape, markers, glue, bedsheets, pins, etc., etc., But this year they also wanted a long piece of butcher paper. Hmmm???
Finally they were ready to come upstairs and perform for the adults. So enter the first two kids, holding up the butcher paper, across which has been written "Bethlehem Maternity Hospital". And they proceed to tell that in their story this year, the baby would be born in a hospital because all the inns were full. In rushes Mary with child, Joseph, carrying the suitcase. And they go through the whole excitement thing, acting very silly. Finally Joseph and Mary move on to another room.
In walks the littlest member of the family, a two year old. This is her first year to have a speaking part in their little re-enactment. She walks out and freezes! From the sidelines, you hear everyone urging her on. They're whispering loudly, "Tell them about the baby. Tell them about the baby!" The little girl finally gets her courage up and opens her mouth and says...............
"It's a girl!"
