I am describing the mindset of the Pharisee hunters here--that is how they view the Scripture.
What you say is sort of ironic. The "anti-legalists" have, in a way, created a new kind of legalism that reads the Scriptures according to the letter only.
The kind of legalism we are seeing on this thread is the worst kind--the kind that says "If you can't show me chapter and verse specifically forbidding it, it is ok."

I do agree that many who proclaim freedom from legalism are also legalists.

Exactly.
That is the truest definition of legalism.
Jesus rebuked the pharisees for that very thing--looking for loopholes.

Lol, you guys kill me.
No one is saying smoking is ok, we're just asking why the same amount of emphasis is not placed on other things that are just as dangerous to one's health?????????????????????????
Argh, I give up!
Back to work!

That is not what I am saying - I am just asking why the same logic is not used - I know what scripture is used for smoking but it seems to me we should use the same scripture for things other than just smoking.
I would like to know why tobacco is a sin? Is it b/c its unhealthy? If thats the case a lot of things could be added to the list. Sugar, sodium, and phenylalanine. The last one is found in diet drinks and is known to cause multiple health issues. Is it b/c of the addiction? I have read that nicotine has the same addictive qualities as herion. If thats the case we should still adhere to the preachers I heard years ago preaching against caffiene.
Sugar and Sodium are not unhealthy. Sugar and SALT in high quanties are unhealthy
Tobacco is addictive and is a non-nutriant. It's not a vitamin, mineral or a spice.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
Every sinner must repent of their sins.
That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.
