Re: *UPC Movie Making Pastor has Movie Made About
Hi all,
My name is Matt Woods and I am a producer of "Audience of One." I have a Google Alert set-up for the film and it found this forum yesterday. It was interesting to read all of your reactions to our trailer and your general thoughts about Richard.
I wanted to let you all know that the film will be released next spring on DVD and it will have a small theatrical run in a handful of cities that are TBD. It will also run on the Sundance Channel starting next fall. I hope all those who want to see it will get a chance to. We have a website now as well: audienceofonemovie.com
So along with the above shameless promotion, I'm also shamelessly writing to perhaps get some "market research." We've had some favorable reviews from Christian web-based movie critics as well as the occasional compliment from Christians after festival screenings, but we're not sure how the successful the film will be if we try to market it to Christians. Along with that, we're wondering if the Pentecostal community would be interested in the film or not given Richard's controversial place within the community.
Any thoughts you have on this would be much appreciated. And if you belong to a church that you think might enjoy hosting a screening of the film, let me know as we may try doing some promotional screenings around the time of the DVD release.
Finally, if any of you have any questions about the film, I'd be happy to try to answer them.
Thank you for your time and I apologize in advance if my barging into your forum is not welcome.
Best,
Matt

Well, the unfortunate thing is that UPC people aren't allowed to watch the DVD.

I'm not too familiar with Pentecostal practices - so some are ok with watching movies and some aren't? I know Richard didn't see his first film until he was 40...

Have the Articles of Faith of the UPCI changed in that regard? Preachers are allowed to have TV's and they are not encouraged by the AoF to preach against TV's in the homes of their congregants?
And besides, I should have put TIC at the end of my previous post.
BTW: Keep in mind, I'm an independent Pentecostal (former UPC) and I am currently typing this post on my laptop while watching CNN on my 50" bigscreen TV in my living room. I could watch it on my TV in my living room, the one in the garage, or the one in my bedroom as well.

Right, some Pentecostals are ok w/it, others, like Richard's group the UPCI, preach against it. Well, they're supposed to. Most don't and I would guess a large majority of the congregants have a TV in their home regardless of what's preached at their church and it's kind of an open joke. Some are pretty hardline about it, but many of that sect left the UPCI earlier this year and formed their own little group.

Hey the latter could fall in the "doubtful disputations" thread. You feel your tv's have little bearing on your spirituality or the climate of your home, but revel in it over others. haha sorry... have to see the other thread.
Have fun on the **** tube. Oh - and at least turn the channel to FoxNews!

Just giving you the "amen" hand on this one. However, our UPCI church adheres to the decision of our faith community on the issue, by a far majority. And definitely people in leadership.
As far as "little" group, I just thought that was a cheap shot. But whatever.

I have no idea what you're talking about in terms of another thread. You're reading into my post...I don't recall 'reveling in it over others'. Please reserve your sarcasm for someone else.
