Don't know the folks in question, but what I have heard about Heritage is not all that good.

Re: Growing Up Mennonite

Steven, you may have already covered this, but did you do anything special for Christmas as Mennonites?

Yes. We have a large family gathering (like this past Sun.) though it's often not on Christmas day since many of us EXers travel on that day.

On Christmas day most Mennonites shun Trees and Santa but it is a special day starting with a formal worship service and culminating with special food. Gift giving is minimal compared to the rest of society, and is often limited to children, and younger adults.

Thanks for your interest.

Today, almost all Amish shun, while most Mennonites do not. (the Holderman group I know does though)

Old Order Mennonites (and I mean "Horse & and Buggy" OOM) do have meeting houses. Many OOM do not have beards while most all Amish groups are required to wear them. Also, OOM embrace a bit more technology than the OOA. We had phones and electricity for major appliances. No electronics, cameras, radio, TV though. And distinctive dress - similar to Amish.
Steve, did you come out of the Holderman group?

When you left the OOM church, did you go immediately to the UPC? Or did you just leave and then eventually wind up UPC? Why did you leave?

No the Holderman group is not a "horse & buggy" denomination.

Within a few months after leaving I joined a UPC Church.

The link in the original post of this thread describes more why I left.

Re: Growing Up Mennonite

I just checked out Heritage Homestead on Rick Ross... they sounds great to me! They seem to have had contact with UPCers, so I would guess they're one-GOD and Acts 2:38 people, which would put them into the Kingdom, in my mind, and with their conservative values and Anabaptist background... wow, could it be... people who think almost EXACTLY like me!

The Old Order Mennonites do not "evangelize" as a rule, and they have no missionaries. However my brother and sister are part of the Eastern Mennonite Church and they have many missionaries in Central and South America - If these were conservative Mennonites (but not horse & buggy) there is likely a connection to this group or a similar one.
Would OOMs simply not evangelize by wanting "their light to shine" and that to be enough for people to get saved. Do the OOM and Amish see non-Anabaptists as saved?

Be very careful with these people. From everything I've heard, they are not a good group to be associated with.
