Last weekend I was helping a friend move, and afterward we were hanging out an grilling some steaks, and at the end of the night my friend made the statement that this was such a great time and that we should do this again sometime. And I got to thinking about how many times I've heard that in my life, example; your hanging out one night with some friends doing whatever, and someone says, hey we should do this again sometime! So a week maybe 2 weeks later you meet with the same people at the same place and do the exact same thing but no matter how hard you try you just can't recreate that past moment. It's always something new, and I think that happens to us as Christians sometimes we are always trying to recreate a moment in are walk with God, a feeling we had or that service we had that went all night long. And we base are whole relationship with God on a moment that we're trying to recreate from 5, 10 even 20 years ago.
Forgetting that Jesus is the creator of new things, and that everyday in Christ is a new day. We must change our 'mental' wine skins or the new wine (or knowledge) that we put in will be contaminated by the former wine (or knowledge) from the past, and it will never allow us to grow. I think God has given this thought to me, letting me know to stop searching for a past feeling or a recreated moment, that in me and all of us he wants to do a new thing.
Think how your walk with God has changed over the past year. Think about what you know now, that you didn't know then. Hopefully everyone can say they've grown in their spiritual journey. If I think about it, the one thing I know now, that I didn't back then, is who I am in Christ.
Ephesians 1:17-18 says, "I have received the spirit of wisdom and revelation and the knowledge of Jesus, the eyes of my understanding being enlightened."
