Re: Have You Been to WWPF Lately?
I have to agree with you "Arkansas girl". The bitterness gets pretty rampant. Not to mention the 'ministerial gossip'. I used to work at the Publishing House several years ago, and "No!", I'm not a disgruntled employee. They were everyday people working there, just like you and me. But the UPCI HAS changed over the years. I currently attend a UPC church in the St. Louis area. We now have "show-time" religion, and not Old time religion. Congregational singing has been replaced by "off-the-wall" singing. Hymnals are not vogue. The praise team entertains with "therapeautic" strains of "Here I am to Worship, Here I am to bow down", (although none do - "bow down"). Once in a while the drummer gets wild, and everyone bounces up and down in time, but I'm not really sure it's fire shut up in their bones. I can't tell you the last time I heard a sermon about "hell". And there's aren't any more altar calls. We just all go up around the front at the end of the service. It's less offensive that way. Yup, and I'm the organist. Playing such watered down music - singing about the 'rain' so much we're all wet. We don't sing any songs with the power of a rushing mighty wind, or fire any more. We just sing the songs that are made famous by our American Idols. Right on our platform.
Sorry folks, criticize the WPF all you want. I've never even met one, but I'M INTERESTED!!! Check out the old testament. I remember the FIRST temple. This second one we're in DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE!!!!
I backslid and lived in the world for 17 years. Lost my family, my home, and my job. My parents never stopped praying for me. THANK YOU JESUS, for having mercy on me, and letting me come back. It's odd that I now see the 'church' yearning for the stuff I had in the world, and while I was in the world, I desperately needed what the church had.
I've already made my reservations to go to Tulsa - I prefer to know the truth for myself, rather than listen to "he said", and "she said". You can't judge a book by it's cover. Just because a few WPF may come across as holier than thou, doesn't mean that's what the leadership stands for. God help us all if our leaders were judged by what we say and do. And, I'm not buying the stuff about "how they left". The first thought that ran through my mind when I backslid and left the church was how those people thought they were better than me.
EXACTLY what you hear the WPF accused of. Sorry folks, strait is gate, narrow is the way, and few that find it. I'm wanna find out more about the 'few''. Hell has widened it's mouth to handle the majority. (and for those with Satan on their shoulders, "No, I wasn't inferring that the UPCI is headed for hell.")
