I think that's a good point. God was very specific and detailed in the law, so I have trouble believing that we need to add anything to it. I think He covered all the stuff that was important to HIM!!!

And a lot of that detailed law is no longer necessary for the NT church! I am a Gentile Christian!

I've never worn heavy make-up, and if you'd asked me 5 years ago, I would have said NO ONE needs it! LOL!!! But as I get older, I see that maybe I DO need a little bit. Oh, those dratted dark circles under my eyes in the morning!

I still talk to our girls about how they don't need to subscribe to a worldly ideal of beauty--they are fine just as they are. And I point out what looks ridiculous and immodest (because some looks draw undue attention to oneself). But at the same time--both of them are getting braces next year, so how is that all that different? It's purely a cosmetic procedure.

My daughter will soon be starting about 3200 duckies worth of work on her crossbite. I said it jokingly, but I said she doesn't need it teeth are to eat with. But we do it for looks alone.

I guess it's like preaching against doctors while wearing glasses.

There are a lot of things that God left out of the law that we've added in.... made our own laws.

Frankly, I think there are many preachers today who recognize that, but are afraid to offend those who would think they're "removing the old landmarks". However, I think our loyalty needs to be toward the Word of God, not to man's traditions.
AMMMEEENN!! Very well said....

I will add that most of my peers (preachers/pastors under 40) are struggling with that same issue... How do we stay loyal to our apostolic forefathers, mentors, Bible teachers, and parents YET DISOWN traditions that are in conflict with the Word of God?

I believe that God is challenging us to reaffirm ourselves to HIM! How we do that, will be unique for each person.

Well, it'll certainly take moral courage, boldness perhaps, and a conviction that we have to be loyal to the word of God, even if it makes us unpopular with man. These men have to develop the conviction that doing what's right by God and his people is more important than personal popularity and/or denominatioal or district politics etc. The OT prophets were willing jeopardize their lives for the cause of their message. We need a generation of preachers who are willing to risk their popularity or even ministry/career ambitions to do what they believe is right.

I believe some of these extra layers of tradition have simply done more harm than good over these past decades. Living a victorious, overcoming life in this world is challenging enough in itself; we dont need to make stuff more difficult for people (especially for new believers) by adding extra layers of non-biblical rules.

These types of things just serve as hindrances to revival.

Words matter

It was called modesty and humility. No jewelry etc to get attention

the next generation renames it and call it tradition. Tradition. Then they say we will make our own traditions

The next generation calls these traditions as traditions and old fashioned. No one wants to be old fashioned.
The next step is riddance of old fashioned ways.

That is how we are joiniing the divorce epidemic in our churches. How does an old fashioned preecher expect a woman to get another husband and be competitive without make up and jewelry? The next argument is that God wants her to be happy. (not in my bible)

( like the way they toss in the "it's not salvational" and One has to admit it is mere "tradition" on the front end of self justification.)

That is how marriage was destroyed. It was tradition to have the same wife for a lifetime.

Greetings, Coadie.

OK. I see you mentioned your bible.

So, speaking of "bible".... since this thread is primarily regarding cosmetics... do you see certain verses in the bible that prohibit cosmetics? If so, please share them with us.
