Do you think the 75 minutes it takes to put on makeup for some women is the best investment of time?

Surely they don't witness 75 minutes a day.

75 minutes? Goodness gracious! Who takes over an hour to put on makeup? I'd guess most women do it in 5-10 minutes, TOPS!

Coadie, the real question is: do you have Bible against the use of cosmetics or not?

It's funny when people don't have Bible for something, because then they just start insulting other people and throwing up silly smokescreens. Trust me...we can all see right through the screen. I don't think the smoke is thick enough.

So I was making a point in regards to adornements being beneficial to soul winning.
Hair curlers? Sin... no purpose for a woman to curl up her hair... but PRIDE.
Gold/silver cufflinks? sin.
Decorative or fancy hat-pins? Adornment. Sin.
High heeled shoes ? Prostitutes wear those. Definitely a sin.
And DON'T GET ME STARTED on those sinful wedding rings!

I think the point was, years ago the same group that preaches "modesty" that some of us later called tradition, were preaching against certain colors, open toed shoes and other things that the same group no longer believes today is a question of modesty but was a tradition they had since gotten rid of.

Facial hair was or is not a question of modesty. It never was and it really is a tradition. It's not even in the UPC articles of faith

I have yet to see someone, in over 20 years of standards, come to the Lord by advocating NO makeup. It's irrelevant

Wow. I had to ask myself how seriously I should take this post.
I'll just give you the briefest of anwers.

If you dont see how man-made legalisms can be an obstacle to revival, then you need to really get your thinking straight, brother.
Plain and simple.

I don't think you can totally discount the fact that some women are very respected for their minds and not appearance alone.

It looks like my view of saints and success is not like yours at all.
The point was the outward appearance and example of application of cosmetics with these two people. It wasn't about their biographies.

You're hitting Renda on a place she wasn't going nor referring to.

Now, I will agree with your points on the "pride". Many times and subconsciously, cosmetics, IMO, appeal to our pride.

BUT, because of the topic of this thread, I will have to go with TRFrance's response that we are looking for scripture for or against and not our personal views or convictions on the subject.

how does a tie win souls? Sily questionm isn't it?

I'm interested on any scriptures you might have that show Gods against makeup.

So you can't answer?

Is 75 minutes to put on makeup wasted time?

Tammy Fay baker is an example of more is better.

They sure get large churches. But you can't give an example of 1 case of cosmetics being beneficial for soul winning.

Not even one from the bible.

will your pastors wife teach ladies how to shun women that don't wear makeup?

Ask someone wearing a tie.

thread is about cosmetics. not hair, ties or hot pants. When folks avoid responses, they change the subject.

Do prostitutes wear make up? Why?

That they had a large church can't be proven it had to do with her makeup. That is a logical fallacy.

That it takes some women any amount of time to put on makeup is also not a good argument against makeup. Some people spend 20 min in the shower....does that make taking a shower wrong?
