What do you think about the AIG bonuses?
While I am bothered by them passing out these bonuses...I wonder why nobody is talking about the idiots that just handed them all that money...YOUR money.
And their ""fix it" is to spend more money we don't have then get mad at the businesses? What regulations did they even have in place in oversight before handing them billions of tax payers dollars?
And so far it has not helped the economy, so their solution? Spend more tax payer money.

- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Re: What do you think about the AIG bonuses?
They claim these bonuses were contractual and they were obligated to give them BUT I also heard that they were only added in 2008. I think by then they knew they were in the toilet so to promise huge retention bonuses to derivitives traders was asinine.
Putting together the info I have heard I think $165 million is being split over 400 or so employees. That is almost a half million dollars each on average!
The trend the last decade or two of rewarding CEO's,other executives, and employees like these with huge bonuses or golden parachutes while a companies performance is tanking is absurd. Bonuses should be rewards for performance that brings a positive results to the company. I am amazed at the number of CEO's who run a company in the ground and then leave with tens of millions of dollars in golden parachute settlements.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

The sad thing is that they feel compelled to honor that kind of a contract. But if it was a blue collar auto worker working at your local GM or Jeep plant or any other, those contracts aren't worth the paper they're written on. Look how many have lost their retirement money completely, even tho it was in the contract.
I guess money talks. And the more you have of it, the more you can speak up for yourself, eh?

Re: What do you think about the AIG bonuses?
Well the President is upset and is suppose to try and stop it. But he wanted this money to help them out. Now he knows there are consequences, but it may be too late. And of course the taxpayers get ripped off by the government as usual.

Re: What do you think about the AIG bonuses?
If it's a "contractual" part of a compensation package then it's not really a "bonus." It's "compensation." AIG should have finessed this one with a bit more wisdom and more precise language.
I really don't see how the execs at a failing corp. have earned any real bonuses. A mob with torches and those wooden hay rakes like they used at Castle Frankenstein may be needed before this party is through.

That is a scary thought too....that they couldn't come up with a better worded contract

My thoughts are this his hush money from AIG. They claim they need to honor the contracts. I bet they were afraid those C-Level's would sing everything the company was involved in, and were the dead are buried.

Why would they have to? It's just business as usual. They have a sense of entitlement.

He's right. If I was getting an "average bonus" in the $500K range I'd certainly have some compelling arguments about why I deserved that.
