My best advice would be to read, pray and study stay with the word rightly divide it,stay with it,and please Jesus stay close to him,and as long as you are pleasing him then don't worry about the rest.

I think Luke 11 makes it clear we are to ask for the Holy Spirit.

9And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?

i've always found this scripture to be very interesting...especially because the things mentioned(bread, fish, egg) are food and not really gifts.....like how Peter describes the Holy Ghost in ACTS 2.

Interesting choice of words since it was the good doctor who penned both.

The bread, fish, egg are items of daily sustenance and a child that asks has full trust in his father that they are good - not tainted, and not harmful.

exactly....which to me makes it different than a "gift". I don't view "gifts" as being things of daily sustenance.

I am not making a statement that we should or should not ask God for the Holy Sprit...just that if we are dissecting verbage then it gets a little more complicated then simply blab it and grab it.

good question....i've personally seen one but not the other. I've seen and heard a deaf/mute recieve the Holy Spirit and heard them speak with tongues.

As for a person with no tongue...I wouldn't consider this a problem because tongues are only a sign and there are many other signs that show the Holy Spirit is living & working in a persons life. A person with no tongue cannot surrender something they do not have.

Re: I Knew This Would Happen....

I have a deaf friend that says (signs) that he spoke in tongues. Not the same as not having a tongue but close. I have also personally saw a retarded person speaking in tongues.

If you didn't have a tongue I don't know what you would do. There will always be "if's" while we are in the natural realm.

Jesus said to ask God.

Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
