I think shame of what we have done might be more the issue. As I have been healed from the shame of bad choices I have made, the bad memories are no longer shameful or bad, but just memories of what never to do again. The shame of what I did used to make me hopeless of ever being different. Now, when I sin, I know that God forgives me and shame no longer hounds me. I repent , He forgives, and I go on.
