You need a live streaming server. The best idea, if you have the money, is to team up with another service like Streamingfaith or http://www.abnglobal.com/

You'll need a fast upstream though.

Re: WEBCASTING help

HERE IS A FREE SITE! We use it after seeing another church use it.

http://ustream.tv

No cost! It shows ads on the screens people see, but they are tasteful.

You do not need an encoder, for they do it all for you online. Just get an internet connection to a computer connected to your video camera and sound system, and you're off and running!

Here is our "CHANNEL": http://www.ustream.tv/channel/bible-truth-church

Re: WEBCASTING help

BTW personally we don't want to do streaming but I still want to install a camera system to record services, especially specials like plays and stuff. Anyone know where or how I can get a set up rather cheap? 3 cams with one that pan's, auto follow and recording.

Yes it has live streaming. We use regular DSL, without a T1 line or anything. We use upload speed of .62 mb/s! Download is 5.15. Great, huh? Works great! You can see saved "shows" of our services on the ustream page I indicated above to see the quality.

They offer a download of a FLASH encoder you can use to make it smooth, which is what we also use with it.

Here is an example to view: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/1330489

Flash. Yeah seems like everyone uses flash now. That is Youtubes native format..actually .fla

Do you encode first then send it upstream or is it encodede on the fly on their server?

We use flash as well for church videos. So much better since browsers do it all with flash plugins rather than get a secondary video program running as well.

It encodes on the fly by the server. The server does a lot. It detects your camera and audio input, too! It has its own encoder if you do not have one. But it is slightly choppy. Hence, the flash encoder is downloaded to make it work better.

You select RECORD at any moment during the live streaming, and can stop it at any time. As soon as the recording is over, you have to save it and choose categories for it, and it is ready to view!
