Why aren't we dealing with the "FAT" factor?

I just watched a lovely video from a UPC church. It was a video of their Easter service. Very nice.

But most of the women and some of the men were VERY overweight.

I was going to post the video but I do not want to embarrass anyone.

I am not talking about 5-20lbs I am talking 40, 50, 60 pounds or more.

For one it is not HEALTHY! Being over weight causes all kinds of physical issues.

What I do not understand is, how in the world is your spouse going to find you attractive when you are packing on all those pounds? No wonder we have marriage problems.

Sorry to be so blunt, but when are we going to deal with the fact we eat to deal with our problems? We use food like a drug-we need to stop burying our heads in the sand and admit we struggle in this area and have a problem.

Can not fix anything if we are in denial.

I used to think that America was the "fat nation" of the world, but I am not so sure anymore after seeing what Britain is looking like now (in addition to their bad teeth!).

Re: Why aren't we dealing with the "FAT" factor?

My wife found a friend on Face Book from highschool.

she is now a Plus sized Model.

Now good for this girl, I am not taking shots...

but she was never pentecostal in any form... just making the point that this isnt a "upc" thing.

Re: Why aren't we dealing with the "FAT" factor?

There is a story about a library that was once built. I was very beautiful and a real gem for the college it was built on. They spent insane money on it and it was quite lavish.

It seems the architect didn’t take into account the weight of the books. Consequently the foundation was not built correctly and the building, once full of books began to sink. After some years, this beautiful building had to be destroyed.

Wal-Mart’s are built with that concept in mind.

I think this is a good point-

You can't swim either because a bathing suit isn't modest, can't jog because sweats are pants.

I think God wants us healthy-

Re: Why aren't we dealing with the "FAT" factor?

This subject is far deeper then weight. It is about overall appearances and how rapidly people seem to age in church.

Once your married (which usually happens at a young age), there is no longer ANY reason to look good (or 'sexy' if I am allowed to use that word).

I remember Chris Hall talking about his wife during their "conservative" era and how (he said) she felt so bad for looking like a "granny" at age 30 due to dress requirements. I remember this because I have seen it personally again and again.

(Life is not fair. It is far easier for a 30 year woman to dress and look like a 60 year old then it is for a guy to do likewise.... it is just the nature of men and women fashions.)

Thank God that has not happened to my lovely and quite Pentecostal wife.
