Most organically grown fruits and vegetables simply taste better--IMO, because they're grown with a little more care. Like my Grandparent's garden!!!!
The produce you buy in chain grocery stores is grown for quantity and appearance--not necessarily taste and quality. (other than the quality that relates to how it looks to the consumer)
If you buy fresh produce at a Whole Foods Market, you will TASTE the difference. And manure is a much better fertilizer, Ferd!
You can also catch fish and bury them under your garden beds.
Talk about fantastic natural fertilizer....
Jeff and I are growing our own veggies this year, and I am thrilled about it. I have one heirloom tomato plant, one hybrid, and two cherry tomato plants, 1 yellow, 1 red. Jeff has eggplant, squash, cucumbers, watermelon, etc. We try to pick things we'll actually EAT!!!
BUT, if you do grow too much by accident--give it away, OR put the rotten veggies in a compost bin, and use it on your garden after it breaks down.

Oh, yeah--organically grown fruits and vegetables are a cut above the rest--BUT--BUTTTTTTTT--it is better to eat regular old grocery store fruits and veggies, and even frozen vegetables than none at all.
Cooking vegetables too long does remove most (if not all) the vitamins/minerals, etc., but it's still
nutritive, and better than eating the same ounce-age in twinkies!!!!!
