It must not have been much later because Peter said it was the third hour of the day or 9:00 AM (Acts 2:15). That would have been the first "hour of prayer." The second would have been at noon and the third at 3:00 PM.

Re: Book of Acts

That's probably true. This is how it was once taught to me.

6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

I've had people try to take away from the Tounges experience(stammering lips), as the Spirit gives utterance. By trying to blend it with Speaking in another Language....they might ask you what language you spoke in and was there anyone there to interpret this.

All in an attempt to discredit the whole experience. Some on here may have experienced this aswell. I think there was atleast some time on Pentecost between the 2 although I don't know how much.

Acts 2
1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
while i do believe the account. i really wonder if verse 5 is completely correct. i question Luke's ability to know if every nation under heaven was represented there.

Re: Book of Acts

Well if you start being unsure about something in the scripture especially to the account of the Apostolic Doctrine in Acts and this particular portion of scripture then why believe the rest of it happened as it does today in Acts..Holyghost,speaking in tongues etc....

i'm not saying there could not be....i am doubting Luke's ability to know an Apache from an Aztec...i question if the indigenous peoples from the Pacific islands were represented there....among others.

I see no problem in questioning what a man wrote from his perspective. I believe that Luke was wanting us to know that there was a lot of people there, from many countries...and used these words to describe this event....i don't believe he went around and checked to see that every nation had a representative there.

I'd have to check ... but it depends on what the root meaning of "heaven" Luke is using there. Sometimes in the bible, the translation is simply the region or area.

Could anyone verify this?

or for that matter...the root meaning of "every"...or "nation"...IMO instead of having to become a Greek major...i find it easier to just believe that Luke was speaking "evangelistical".
