Re: The Evangelical Esquire

Where you come up with the title, Evangelical? What about "Apostolic"?

I suppose it was partly alliteration and partly because issues will be more expansive that just Apostolic and yet narrow enough they will be the type relevant to most Evangelical churches..

I honestly have to say I personally have been treated with nothing but respect by the Admin there. As far as the rank and file, I believe that many are somewhat out of step with even members of their own organization and have an inability to articulate their position in a gentlemanly manner. (Much less actually give an answer for certain traditions within their culture.)

On the other hand I have forged genuine friendships among some of even the most ultra-conservatives there.

Please note I genuinely dislike labels, such as conservative and liberal (even though I sometimes feel of necessity to use them myself in order to communicate.) When posting under my own name I am the same person here, there, or anywhere. Yet while considering myself to be moderate, on some forums I am labeled ultra-con, I am definitely one of the more conservative voices here, and on JP, at least of late I am considered a dangerous liberal.

There are flawed individuals in every group (I know any group I participate in must be flawed because I am) but it is the radical fringe that seems to garner the most attention while most are just people doing the best they can.

James, I find your truthfulness rewarding. I wish we all could be truthful to ourselves, to God and to others...I have seen so much...

I really dislike these labels as well as, just as in American politics, "liberals" can be some of the most intolerant, while "conservatives" tend to be the ones with the true compassion.
Now as it applies to religion (apostolic Christianity) I do find that your true ultra-cons seem to be evenly split between truly tolerant (and just plain friendly) and those who will condemn someone to hell with sadistic glee over something on the order of a gnat. Liberals seem slightly more tolerant and friendly (unlike in politics), but they still run the gamut.

Some could stand to learn a little in the gentlemanly art of persuasion department. I'm know we won't agree on everything, but I surely appreciate your thoughful, thought out, and gentle posting style there and here.
