Re: Do You People Have ANY Standards?

Whatever the bible teaches, we must abide by. Certain issues not mentioned in the bible may be required for our situation, using biblical principles. Men should dress masculine and modest and women should dress feminine and modest. Anything that fits that criteria is fine. I do not drink. No cussing.

So many things, but what about STANDARDS OF THE HEART? I've seen "holiness" preachers lie about others, stab in the back, gossip, hold grudges, refuse to apologize, etc. I am amazed at how outward "standards" become synonymous with "holiness," and how the heart goes undealt with.

Not say ALL who keep outward standards are dishonest, etc, since many are not. But standards have been used by MANY to use for a cloak of lying and cheating.

Those are some standards that we MUST have. I doubt that a woman in modest britches will go to hell over it, nor do I think a glass of wine with dinner would do it.

But gossip? That I think will, grudges? Yeah, that too.

Re: Do You People Have ANY Standards?

What bothers me is that so much time and energy is spent worrying about the things on the above list, and so little time is spent worrying about the first part of this verse.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Everyone just wants to worry about defining what the second part of the verse means, and then holding everyone else to their interpretation.

Why don't we hear more discussion of this:

Matthew 25:36

36(A) I was naked and you clothed me,(B) I was sick and you(C) visited me,(D) I was in prison and you came to me.'

Or this:

Mark 12:28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, "Which commandment is the most important of all?" 29Jesus answered, "The most important is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' 31 The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."

So, do you have ANY standards at all?
Well, obviously you don't know me very well and that's a mighty broad assumption on your part. Actually, I do believe in paying tithes and attending church regularly and that cussing is wrong. Basically, my standard is this: If Jesus wouldn't go there, do that or see that, I won't be either for He is with me and sees ALL things 24/7, 365 days a year. So, yes, I do believe in standards!

Re: Do You People Have ANY Standards?

I am tired of people saying things about AFF on other sites...I wish we could all just think of what unites us NOT what divides us...even the UC´s don´t know who is saved since some take wine andothers do not....lol...it is not only here people differ....
