30 Years ago, gasoline was 43 cents a gallon. Dad, being frugal decided to take the whole family- Himself, stepmother, Me, my sister and 4 step brothers- on an extended vacation.
The only way to travel- the 32 foot travel trailer, and truck with 10 foot camper shell. The trailer slept 6, the camper 4..... so off we go. First stop was "Cherry Hill Campground" in Salt Lake City. We 6 kids gorged on cherries and took them in paper bags for the thought of the next 2 weeks. To us this was way better than candy. We went to Yellowstone, then West to Portland, OR and the Bonneville Dam. South on I-5 to California and the mandatory Agriculture Division Check-in. I have never been so happy to be rid of something until today as I was that bag of cherries.
To this day, none of my stepbrothers, my sister, nor myself will even eat chocolate covered cherries without gagging.
No Thanks to the Cherries.
