All Kinds of Standards

I know some people a part of a church that not only has the "Holiness" standards, but have added all kinds of standards over the years. Their latest turn has me laughing hard.

There was one point when they put out a cookbook that mainly used honey, because sugar was bad for the "temple" and they wanted to show the "public" that there was a better way of eating.

This church has a restaurant that attracts tour buses and such. The honey thing would not go over so great for business. Suddenly Fructose was fine to eat. And eat it they did. Tons of it! LOL

The next cookbooks that came out suggested Fructose for the most part when sugar would normally be called for. Then they finally got the picture that Fructose is toxic and really worse than sugar.

Now they suggest EcoSweet and use it in all their baking. This is what is sooo funny. I have asked a LOT of people there about this, and it is not just one person that is deluded, ok?

I asked, "When did you guys decide sugar was okay?" The only response I get from 40 or 50 people so far, "We still don't eat sugar, we eat EcoSweet."

I have tried to convince them that they are eating sugar, but they know that it is not allowed according to "their" standards, so they don't believe me. These people believe everything they are told by their leaders "hook, line and sinker." So they believe they are eating EcoSweet and it is not sugar.

(They have to keep eating sugar or all the money the church is making off the restaurant will go bye bye. Once everyone figures out it is sugar, I guess the leadership will come up with some Biblical reason that sugar is good now. LOL)

This is the problem with making up standards that are not in the Bible. People think they are being "Holy" by doing them, but they are actually just obeying man and not God.

These same people are not supposed to eat pork, chocolate, caffeine, meat with any blood still in it and on and on. If you don't follow the patterns, you get kicked out. If you get kicked out you are going to Hell for breaking your covenant with them. Suddenly you are going to hell for eating something????

Re: All Kinds of Standards

So is the "no sugar" doctrine, central to everything?

The same way that keeping the sabbath on Saturday is central to 7th Day'ers?

Or this small cult which was based out of the Wisconsin Dells that preached that families must save their money all year, then blow every cent of it on a one week vacation? (Yes this group exists -or did, as well).

People can take ANY small rule and blow it up until it is something that everything revolves around. The rule/law/doctrine simply "is". It degenerates into extreme circular thinking.

Gee, where have I seen THIS take place before?

You are sooo correct that "it ain't sugar." I rarely eat sugar. LOL

Now that I read my post, it doesn't sound very kind or respectful of these folks. That really is not my feelings toward them.

My point is that some churches are so concerned with "patterns" that are not in the Bible and I feel they need to stop it. All it does is cause people to doubt they hear from God at all when they keep changing the patterns to fit what they want.

I doubt they would even call it a doctrine, and it is not the focus. But, if the people I know decide to "blow off" the pattern they basically will be put out for not trusting the leadership and thus go to Hell according to them.

I have worked with many of the people that go to church there and I have worked with people that have left there. I have seen both sides and it is very disappointing that they do this in my opinion. When one of them left, because he didn't agree with a "doctrine" he suddenly was treated like an enemy even by his own family. He never even mentioned that he didn't agree, someone just asked him one day and he told the truth.
