Re: How were you treated when changed your standar

I'll sound off for those who went from less "standards" to more.
I was in church for about 7 years when I moved and started attending a church with (I didn't know til later) an attitude where "standards" or even personal convictions were concerned. I started seeking a church that was more like I was used to and ended up visiting one that was much more conservative than I knew any church to be. My roommate had trouble with it. She was mad and made fun of "standards" that were different than hers. The pastor of the liberal church was OK with it til I talked to them about transferring. Then they dressed me down. I haven't talked to anyone from there really since, but I didn't know many of them for more than 6 months and it wasn't like I cut them off or they cut me off. One family was quite kind later, actually. My family is not apostolic. They had quite a bit of trouble with it for several years.

Do you not show your calves or your elbows ever? You haven't posted since yesterday, I am interested in your response to this. I am familiar with long-sleevers, and I tried it out for a while, so I wonder about others experience with this standard, which I now consider burdensome, since wearing long sleeves in 90 degree wheather in July is sort of a burden- that is, unles it is an actual command of GOD for modesty.

Hey Friend,

I apologize for my delay.

I don't know how I should feel about this and other standards.

What I was trying to ascertain from anyone who was willing to answer is:

DOES ANYONE FEEL THAT THEIR MINISTRY IS MORE ANNOINTED BECAUSE OF THE STANDARDS THEY LIVE BY?

DOES ANYONE FEEL LIKE THEY ARE NOT AS ANOINTED SINCE THEY DON'T ABIDE BY THE STANDARDS THEY DROPPED?

HOW DOES LIVING BY OR NOT LIVING BY STANDARDS AFFECT THEIR EFFECTIVENESS IN MININSTRY?

Ok.

But seriously, is there or couldn't there be some value to standards-- or is there no value at all?

If there is some value, is there enough value to alter the effectiveness of one's ministry?

Maybe standards should be only for those in ministry-- but does that make sense?

My view on Magic Hair is that there is no such thing as magical hair.

Seriously, there IS a certain value to standards that I don't consider bad. It creates a sense of membership and belonging to the group itself in the same way that a school uniform can actually lesson SOME disciplinarian issues at a school. People in general need some structure and outward standards go a long way toward providing it.

Obviously a big difference is that the school providing the uniforms isn't making it a heaven or hell issue after graduation.
