Poll for UPCI member/preachers only
Does your pastor actively believe, preach, teach and practice against not watching the evils of television, motion pictures for entertainment and having a tv-ready device in your home?
If you are a former UPCI member, I guess you can answer based on the teaching and preaching of you last church.

Kim, what's the point in this poll? It's obvious you're looking to pinpoint hypocritical preachers. What do you plan to accomplish with this? Do you intend on taking this information to HQ and exposing these "heretics"? Isn't there more important things to do for Christ?

Chime in Justin. You might be the difference maker. With our statistical sample now standing at 3 ANONYMOUS posters and our conclusive data showing 2/3 of the fellowship is seemingly out of compliance of their sworn, signed pledge to do so.

Bad poll options!
It assumes that I would know or care whether my pastor has a television.

If your UPC pastor signs the AS, and then lies by owning a television, then he is not fit to be an elder of the assembly that you and your family attend.

It goes a step beyond that Alex, he is to actively teach and preach against his saints having one and the position statement of videos compel him to stand against his saints watching Hollywood movies for entertainment.
So it begs to be asked whether Stephen's pastor teaches and preaches against his saints having a television or watching Hollywood movies.
However, methinks Stephen's appearance on a reality TV program answers this question already. I don't think Steve would disobey his pastor.

I do not own a TV and do not watch video, etc. It is preached and taught here that the people are not to own or watch TV.

I agree with Hoover......I dont know or really care. What if a pastors wife owns a television its her house too. I could care less either way but good luck on your head hunting!

Re: Poll for UPCI member/preachers only
This is ALL such a distraction!!
Who cares if someone is not living up to a document signed?!
Is it my concern?!
Does it directly effect me and mine?!
Will the decisions of others prevent me from being all God wants and expects ME to be?!
And who is to say who is lying?!
Were not cover letters promoted and encouraged, or is that another so-called urban legend?!
I am convinced more and more as the day approaches that the things we have spent our time debating and grieving over, God is going to say, "What was the point?!"
I will now return to hibernation...

I guess the pat answer would be who wears the pants in the house.
However, the question would be if this pastor whose wife owns a TV is his home is being insubordinate to his teaching and preaching.
The last paragraph of the modern day Holiness article is clear. It reads:
The last paragraph of the Holiness Article, added several years after the merger, reads:
Quote:
“We wholeheartedly disapprove of our people indulging in any activities which are not conducive to good Christianity and godly living, such as theaters, dances, mixed bathing or swimming, women cutting their hair, make-up, any apparel that immodestly exposes the body, all worldly sports and amusements, and unwholesome radio programs and music.
Furthermore, because of the display of all these evils on television, we disapprove of any of our people having television sets in their homes.
We admonish all of our people to refrain from any of these practices in the interest of spiritual progress and the soon coming of the Lord for His church.”
|
A minister affirms every two years that he believes, embraces, practices preaches, and teaches all of this. It is safe to say that he would be or would have actively preached and taught this in this two year interval.
Whether the saints comply is a whole other issue.
I always find allusions to Hollywood movies from preachers in their messages to be interesting also.
