Rev. Ike
I read on the GMA scroll that Frederick Eikerenkoetter a.k.a Rev. Ike passed away July 28th...he was 74 years old.
Rev. Ike at one time was Apostolic, mentored by Bishop RC Lawson from the Church Of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
He was quite popular on radio in the 70s, and was probably one of the first 'prosperity preachers', spouting, "The LACK of money is the root of all evil!!"
The them of his messages: "How to turn your mind power into green power."
He was quite a character...

Re: Rev. Ike
WOW aint that something. Being from NYC and also a former member of the Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ organization, I had no clue that Rev. Ike died. WOW! Us new yorkers (rather any new yorker for that matter) remembers him coming on the tv growing up preaching.

Re: Rev. Ike
Back in 1972 we recieved a piece of mail from Rev Ike. It looked like one of those Publishers Clearing house big envelopes. It has a full color slick insert with a picture of a Rolls Royce or Cadillac Eldorado, a mansion ,etc.
It was very elaborate. I don't remembe the details but the gist of it was that if you wanted that Rolls or Caddy or a Mansion or a million bucks you just need to believe it was yours, claim it, and of course send Rev Ike money for him to pray about it for you or send you a prayer cloth or some such thing.
He actually said either in that mailout or on the radio something to the effect of "If you have been praying for that Cadillac and come upon one with the keys in it - take it!!!! That is God saying it is yours!!" I wondered how many people were arrested for stealing Caddy's after that encouragement!

Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Rev. Ike
I heard about Rev Ike's death on the radio today while traveling from the Mobile Alabama area back to the Nashville area.
The first thought that popped into my head was how said Sandra must be tonight to lose a pioneer of the prosperity gospel !!!!!!! LOL!!!

Re: Rev. Ike
I remember watching Rev. Ike on tv really late at night on one of UHF channels.
I watched him with my Dad and brothers and sometimes my Mom would be awake, but we didn't watch him too much.
My Dad would use him as an object lesson to teach us that we don't believe in luck like that Rev. Ike.
