If people come to this forum and are in that "pendulum process", I think they should hear the firm, strong opinions from both sides of the aisle. The conservative values are just as valid as the liberal ones. I don't believe very many people on the FCF were shunned for having liberal leanings or for questioning--they were made to assert their reasons and defend their beliefs, which is actually good for the whole process. How can I believe anything if I can't defend it or explain it? Being asked to assert, explain or defend a belief forces me to clarify my own thinking on a matter.

My humble opinion is that in too many areas, we have people who are more agenda-driven than issue-driven. No matter what the issue or conversation is, it will eventually morph into their agenda. I try to not fit into that category...but I'm sure that if I do someone will let me know.

I absolutely agree, tstew.
Stephen Hoover and I have disagreed on a couple of issues and he was never condescending, rude or a bully toward me during any part of our conversing. He let me talk and share whatever thoughts I had with no fallback and I feel that I did the same. Kudos to Stephen for a great example. I will include Stew in that category as well - good job, Stew!
That's what I want when I come to a forum and I don't believe we, for the most part, are getting that here.
Also, if I wanted to hear the continued whining () about the UPC I would go to Lois' Spiritual Abuse forum. Sometimes it seems that AFF, perhaps, may be a daughter work. Just sayin'.......
There was whining about the UPC on the FCF. That didn't make things fizzle out or make people leave. There was rudeness on the FCF; people didn't leave because of it. At least, not always.
The whining isn't the problem; it's the lack of support from the other side of the coin that makes it annoying. (JMO)

Let me see, Bratti - you once posted that something I said was "stupid". I guess that is intelligent dialogue? Just sayin'

Had to put that in as an example.
Hmmmm...well, it wasn't my shining moment was it? But then, you've had a few dull moments yourself. <-------remember, the smilies make it all better.
I never said it all needed to be intelligent dialogue; there just needs to be lots of dialogue, without a lot of unnecessary censorship, except for what is necessary to keep the purpose of the forum in line.

The bottom line is that there is no balance of both liberals and conservatives. There seemed to be more of that on FCF, IMO.
The tone of conversation on FCF was on a higher level. It was more Boardroom and not coffee shop.

Totally agree. There was still the coffee shop element, though--but it wasn't the overwhelming tone.

Have we ever disagreed about anything?

I agree with this - all we need is the respect back FOR BOTH SIDES!
