Any experience in planning for a large group?

I need any experienced folks that have done planning for a large group that includes food. I have no idea how many people will actually show up.

Any suggestions on how to determine how much food to prepare?

Foods:

gumbo
Pickles
corn dogs
nacho's
sausage on a stick
onion blossoms
cotton candy
pop corn
snow cones
desserts
drinks

I don't want to run out of food, nor do I want to invest unwisely.

This will be a fun day for kids and adults open to the public.

Esther, if you have absolutely no idea how many people are going to show up, I would recommend that you keep it limited to things that can be prepared very quickly without much prep so that you can make it as you go...and not end up with a bunch of prepared or partially prepared items left over.

very good advise.

change the menu to fit the situation.

Esther, your menu looks nice but you need to know how many you are cooking for, for that to work. otherwise you will be long or short.

You really need to find a way to get to a number otherwise you will be in trouble.

Okay we are going to shoot for 500-700 people.

Since this is the first year, not sure what to expect.

Is this for the church bazaar thingy you talked about in another thread?

500-700 people... you're kidding... right?

How well has this event been promoted?

Large church?

Usually for our church events, we're lucky if HALF the people who are full time members show up for fundraising stuff-- and MAYBE a few from the surrounding area...
