I never buy anything that is not on sale, though! Why be a sucker?! LOL!

I just bought a suede pair of grey tennis shoes. I never wear tennis shoes, but they were on sale and so pretty!!! Now I have to find an outfit that goes with that!!

A black linen skirt with a grey cashmere sweater!!! I'll never find it! LOL!

Me either! My m.o. is to write down brand names, and then look on Ebay.

And I'm always having to buy clothes to go with my shoes!

I never shop E-bay. Everything I need is in Houston or Austin, Texas!

As mentioned already, the difference is people at rodeo's or country music award shows, etc. aren't trying to line up with scripture about being modest.

That IS the rub.

I don't see what is so immodest about being dressed up. It only draws attention to the ones that don't want to. I don't see how that is being immodest. Being half-dressed or having cleavage showing like Yolanda Adams and CeCe Winans is immodest and a bad example to all Christian women, IMO.

I don't think it's the being dressed up at all. I love to dress up! The point I don't understand is what AQP has been saying too.

Being modest isn't JUST about cleavage showing. The scripture to me, means to NOT BE SHOWY. You can disagree all you want, but there are SHOWY people at GC or church or ladies meetings. And the argument that there are showy people in the world doesn't hold water because they aren't pretending to live by the scriptural meaning of modest.

That's all I'm saying.

And that's a gray area too. Being ostentatious, overly done-up, designer shoes, matching designer purse, etc is "showy" to me. But women do like to have fun and dress up. And if you're going to dress up, you should know how to do it. That's a worse example (representing with your ratty t-shirts and denim skirt).

The Bible doesn't say to not be showy. It just says in order with good behaviour. If you are pressed and coiffured - you are in order! LOL! Now, how you act after that is the question! LOL!

Seriously, if whatever you are wearing comes between you and honest worship and service to God, you need to change your style. It, basically, comes down to an individual thing. And because it is an individual thing, we can't judge those we see. We simply do not know their hearts.

You can see teenagers being teenagers and having on some wacky stuff, but when the power of God hits them, they are crying like a baby and wanting God more than anything - at the moment! LOL! Oh, those fleeting harmones. LOL!

I'm just glad they are in church and not in a bar - no matter how bad they act after leaving the building. The church is a hospital. We cannot turn anyone away. When their friends know their darkest secrets and faults, it's hard for them to get past that and do the thing they want to do - worship God. Condemnation is a griping element to fight!! Not much different in any other religious group, IMO. People are just people.

I have to disagree - - I think that is exactly what it's saying. I know it's The Message, but that is how I have always interpreted the passage.

The Message interpretation is pretty sobering:

1 Timothy 2:9 (The Message)

8-10 Since prayer is at the bottom of all this, what I want mostly is for men to pray—not shaking angry fists at enemies but raising holy hands to God. And I want women to get in there with the men in humility before God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing something beautiful for God and becoming beautiful doing it.
