What else would they be called? It is cumbersome to write out " a person affiliated with the Teabag Party" every time. On top of that, it is only slang if you take it that way. I am sorry if you cannot see that word and automatically think of an obscene definition, but that is your issue, not mine. Do you take issue when someone makes tea? Do you tell them not to use the term teabag, since it offends you, but instead refer to it as "a bag filled with sundry spices to enhance the look and taste of water'?
This word has been used many times on this forum, and truly, this is the first time I have seen someone have an issue with it. Stop thinking of it as an obscene term and there won't be an issue.
Teabagger is NOT the proper or correct way to describe a person affiliated and it's sexually obscene and offensive.
There is no proper definition and then a slang definition, there is only one definition and it is sexually obscene and shouldn't be used in this forum.
On top of that, if we call people in the "Birth" movement "birthers", then it makes sense to call people in the Teabag Party "teabagger". Same concept.

It isn't the "Teabag Party". It's the Tea Party Movement. They threw 342 chests of "tea leaves" in the Boston Harbor. They didn't throw "teabags.".

Well, I don't know if it's because I'm a senior (old man), or not "street smart" or just plain stupid but I didn't know what the "T" term meant. I Googled it and found out. That's one of the things I learned as a result of being part of this forum. See, one is never too old to learn.
Looks like it has several meanings, some of which are crude and/or sexual. One of the meanings denotes a reference to a gesture of dominance. Maybe that was in mind when folks started calling themselves the TEA party, I dunno.
One more point about the Tea Party. As a general rule no one involved with the Tea Party has ever idenified themselves or the Tea Party by the term discussed here.
The only people who have used that term are those who intend to belittle the Tea Party or some who may errantly and ignorantly have assumed that was a correct name based on what they heard from those wanting to belittle the movement.

I had no idea what the T B had reference as I do not listen to slime broadcasts or use offensive language. If one was truly interested in dialog they wouldn't have made an issue of the filthy meaning on the open forum, a simple PM could have explained the term and the controversy would have been avoided as I would not ever use the term again and delete the post. That wasn't done by Adm. or the ones rolling on the floor LOL.

Missed the fun... but - the Tea Party people did throw tea bags at the Capitol on at least one occasion which is what prompted gay CNN anchor Anderson Cooper (son of Gloria Vanderbilt and heir to that fortune) to say what he did.
Also, with regard to the "Tea Party" tag - that was applied by these folks from the beginning:
