And D4T - - isn't it a good place to be when you end up closer to God than ever before because YOU stop "playing church".
How do you "play" church when the Spirit of God is moving, touching, blessing and when you read His Word you feel a deepness in your Spirit?

Even in the midst of some doctrinal error or character/personality/church problems, how do you "play" church?

Aren't you saying that you let everything cloud your vision and your personal walk with God? I don't see that being the church's fault? JMO.

I've been through hell and high water! (lol) and I was always aware of His presence and leading in my life. I just don't get the "playing" church. It's like a confession of not having a personal relationship with God.

Re: 'Cause I'm Scared

This really makes me want to cry. I have been dealing with this exact subject for two years and due to all of this, my marriage is split up and I am learning ALOT on my own.

Learning that I can make it with the Lord's help.
Learning that man made rules are good for some but not for all.
Scared that I am hurting people with my decisions but I cannot go back to living the way that I was.
Not having anyone to talk to about this. I trust no one.

I pray that all of us find peace with the convictions and decisions that we all have to make every day.

I don't think she is talking about a move of God.

I also don't think she is claiming that anyone else is playing church.

Well, in answer to your first question and point of the thread - the only thing that really, really scared and still scares me is - jumping ship and being out of the will of God.

I scare myself and I need God's Spirit to lead and guide me.

Re: 'Cause I'm Scared

Most old dysney movies al had a common element: a witch and witchcraft. Yet it was always Kid friendly! I wonder why witches and wicca became so accepted and popular in our generation of peopleraised on Dysney films and cartoons.

I bought the 80's Transformers cartoon on DVD for Josiah. He is 3 1/2. He could watch it all day and night if we let him. We don't. However, I know that in that show there is no witchcraft. No language. No blood. No real violence other than between robots. The goodguys always win. I like having something I can let him watch and know it isn't pushing an agenda. (It's agenda in 86 was to get kids to get their parents to buy toys. No social or political agenda)

Too much TV is horrendous for kids. It weakens the imagination and shortens attention spans. It also tends to make them fat since they don't move for hours! I am not anti-TV. I just think we need to be careful not to let it raise our kids.

PO - that's exactly what it is. I'm talking about my teenage years. I played church - - many, many of my other friends did too. We were raised in the church and it's all you knew. You did things (or didn't do things) because your church told you what to do. I didn't have any personal convictions. I looked the part, sang in the choir, worshipped and would be blessed, but it was "at church" - - we weren't taught to make it personal. It was after I went to Bible school that I stopped playing church and found out for myself what it was all about.

It's probably something you could never relate to because you didn't grow up in the church like I did. I don't mean that negatively but, if others are honest - they will admit to it being this way for them too.

I understand, Renda. You've made that point before and I think that I can agree - I think. (lol)

It's just that I was raised a staunch Catholic and I never played church even as a child. I took all of it very seriously.

BUT, I know that every child must find God for themselves - in every religion. We can't live off of our parent's or our peer's relationship.

Of course. But that's completely, not even remotely what I'm talking about.

And witches didn't originate with Disney. Try reading some of the original Grimm's Fairy Tales from way, way back (way before tv). They're horrifically evil and violent.

Exactly. But some of us are feeling very pressured to do just that.

Maybe I shouldn't use the term, but with those that I'm around, grew up with, etc we all understand what is meant by saying "played church".

To me, there are people that "play church" still. I know that's not going to go over very well, but they are there. There are some ministers that can turn it on and off (play church) and aren't digging in the word or spending time on their knees. They have learned the art and know how to do what's expected. I really don't want to misdirect this thread - it's a good thread.
