WHY?

I haven't read the whole thread, but it is my understanding that the full body scan will not detect the genitals in a way that would be immodest.

I mean, when you go to a bone x-ray, it detects bones, right?

Re: Full Body Scanning at Airports

I've read through this whole thread.

The scanners will not be detecting flesh, they will be detecting bone, hard, and or suspicious objects.

The only folks with something to worry about are the folks who have something to hide, like a bomb.

As long as the x-rays are not going to pose health threats to folks with heart monitors and metal body pady parts, I don't see the issue.

Of course, pregnant women SHOULD NOT be forced to go through the body scanners.

Common sense should be the rule if they decide to go this route.

Well I'll be the first one to say that your thinking is screwed up and that your post reflects nothing less than religion based bigotry!

There are literally millions of muslims in the world-- surely you don't believe that most of them, or even a quarter of them are of the mindset that it is ok to blow people up!

And for the rest of the AFF'ers who have read his post and have either agreed with him or said nothing, you're worst than he is!!!

Why would anyone let his statement go unchecked, unchallenged?

CH TATUM, what you typed was wrong as in IMMORAL!

Re: Full Body Scanning at Airports

After watching an entire flight of people go through the scanner, there wouldn't be much left but possibilities of weapons that would attract the attention of anyone operating the scanner.

I still think someone ought to come out with a scan proof undergarment. Could become a highly sought item!!

Of course, I'm still open to the idea of getting my pilot's license and flying y'all around in small engine planes, too...

Tough call, but I suspect more than a quarter of the Muslims are sympathetic in countries like Yemen, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

One thing cannot be argued IMO. We currently are and should do MORE profiling in protecting American civilians in the war on terror.

I was not one that agreed, and I would argue their religion should just be one of several factors.

The other factors include profiling of age, race, traveling habits etc.

"Scan proof" undies? That would guarantee a pat-down and strip search.

If you're going to profile Muslims, then say you're going to profile Muslims.

Honestly, I haven't heard of Christians or Budhists of blowing up planes lately.

However, anything that smacks of bigotry makes me cringe!

So in the profiling, we determine the person to not be Muslim, the person is not as much of a security threat.

To that determination I say, "baloney" and such practices would only make things worse.

As for age, race, traveling habbits,-- ancillaries to make one feel good about profiling Muslims.

SHAMEFUL BIGOTRY TOLERATED IS UNWISE!

Today it's somebody else, tomorrow it's you!

You could be right, Jermyn. Thanks for the rebuke, seriously. I often need one, and don't fault you at all for doing it.

Perhaps the reason my statement was unchecked and unchallenged was because many people feel the same way.

I sincerely pray for God's blessing on you in the coming year!

And, FTR, if they are going to body scan me, they will need some kind of wide-angle device....

It hasn't been but a month or two ago since a US Army officer gunned down fellow soldiers in TX on an Army installation. He would have had to gone through at least one security clearance just as protocol to even access files as military personnel, and probably a fairly high level considering his rank and tasks. All check financial background, family history, criminal history, court history... the higher the clearance the more indepth. Some of those clearances even require personal interviews of persons who have known you... but he was not caught. I seriously doubt that general profiling of every person of a specific persuasion or genetic makeup would do one ounce of good.
