Thank God that women WANT to look good too (most of them).

In the texts, Paul is reminding women that they have a beauty that comes from their Christian conduct and not to over-accentuate that. Our ladies... how are they known? The women with long hair, long dresses and eccentric outfits or women of gentle conduct? Sort of ties into the Jesus Creed: By this shall all men know you are my disciples...

I believe this is very true.

However, isn't the whole purpose of being modest - not drawing attention to yourself?

It just doesn't make sense to those NOT in the circle.

You sound classy.

The fashion is pointing back to retro styles though where beads, metallics, shimmer and bling are quite popular (and don't look cheap IMO, they look extravagant). Of course looking "cheap" is another story isn't it! lol I mean, it's one thing to be poor, but another to try so hard that you look CHEAP Okay, being nice. Enjoying the discussion.

Modesty could also be deemed attracting undue attention to oneself or attracting attention to the wrong parts of oneself...

The world makes you feel you have to wear it. That your aren't accepted without it. "Put on your face!" I hated that pressure, just as much as those hate what they feel is pressure to keep standards.

I don't think it's like that anymore. I don't know when you came into the church. Natural is in. Light accented make-up. People are so open to anything these days, that they think it's cool when people are comfortable enough not to wear it. If someone feels pressure, it's brought on by themselves.

The newest trend at one church nearby is pouty lips. The girls lean forward with their upper bodies, pucker their lips out at the end of every sentence, and kind of wrinkle their noses... very Marilyn Monroe. Modest?
