Re: IHOP Baptizing in Jesus Name

Michael the D...

Are you in or around the K.C. area? Are you planning to visit IHOP?

I'm not trying to encourage or to dissuade you either way... I'm just curious and would like to hear a report of your experiences if you are in a position to check them out. I have friends and work contacts in the KC area - but no one who is likely to ever darken the doorstep of a "charismatic" church.

Im in Southern Ky. Not likely to ever visit IHOP. I do watch then on the Computer daily. Its really been a blessing for me and my wife. When the Lord brings them into Oneness I will try to get there in person.

Michael, do you really think that after everything Bickle and his group have already been through since the 1970s that they'll move into Oneness?

I don't.

God did it for us. Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we're in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ. ~Romans 3:24 from The Message

Nope. Not a fan of breakfast.

Prayer...now that's something I can get excited about.

Well why not pray and believe for the will of YHWH to be done with them? I pray that way for various groups. After all I was very surprised to see them baptizing into the name of Jesus. When did they get into that? They evidently grew into it.

I don't know anything about them other than what the Christian media and some "discernment ministries" have said about the K.C. Prophets and the Vineyard movement - and that stuff of course needs to read with "discernment" as well!

The "In Jesus' Name" prayer and invoking Jesus' name for power in prayer and authority over darkness is something that came along with the "restoration" movements that preceded the Pentecostal Revival. People throughout history have seen the association between baptism and Jesus' name in the book of Acts.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could find folks at IHOP who are essentially Oneness in theology.

My only criticism is that they do have a history of acting like "us" when it comes to discipleship and such. If they've left that behind then I hope the blossom and prosper.

From what Im reading I dont see any relationship between the way Oneness has taught discipleship and what they are doing. I have noticed practically NO DISCIPLESHIP teaching period among Apostolics. In the past they have and some still do teach a theology of outward dress. To their credit they have taught prayer. Some will probably say I am over generalizing.

The sermon on the mount is being given great importance at IHOP. Hours of prayer, days of fasting, witnessing on the streets. To them the ONE THING is loving the Lord Your God with all your heart. Not since the Jesus Movement of the 70's have I seen young people so willing to serve YHWH. But having seen that movement and this one I am more impressed with this.
