Re: IHOP Baptizing in Jesus Name

An appendix to IHOPS Statement Of Faith:

Quote:
Affirmations and Denials

The Manifest Sons of God Theology

We Affirm all born-again believers will be "manifest" as sons of God after the second coming of Christ.

We Deny that we will experience the fullness of our inheritance as sons of God before Jesus returns.

Explanation: Some uphold the false teaching that in this age believers can have faith that will enable them to attain to qualities of life that are reserved only for believers in the resurrection.

The Latter Rain

We Affirm that the Church will experience the greatest outpouring of the Spirit in history before Jesus returns (Joel 2:28–32). This outpouring will result in a great ingathering of souls and a renewing of the Church so that it walks in godliness as declared in the Sermon on the Mount (Mt. 5:1–7:28). We affirm the presence of the fivefold ministry for the equipping of the saints (Eph. 4:11–13).

We Deny the distinctive doctrines that go beyond Scripture that are often associated with the Latter Rain theology that was popularized in the 1950s.

Explanation: Some have wrongly identified our ministry today with the false teachings that were popularized by some in the Latter Rain movement. At no time in the past did we have any relationship with this movement.

Dominion Theology

We Affirm that God’s purpose is for Jesus to come back to fully establish His kingdom rule over all the earth. After the second coming, the saints will rule the earth under the leadership of Jesus Christ when He sets up His government on earth in the millennial kingdom (1 Cor. 6:2; Rev. 5:10; 20:3–6). We believe that believers in this age are called to serve Jesus in politics and to help establish righteousness and justice in legislation. We do not have the assurance that all laws and governments will be changed until after the second coming of Jesus to establish His millennial kingdom.

We Deny that the Church will take over all the governments of the earth before the return of Christ.

Explanation: Some believe and teach that all governments on earth will be transformed by the Church before the second coming of Jesus.

I really like this appendix. Cuz I take some serious issue with the whole manifest sons of God thing.

Re: IHOP Baptizing in Jesus Name

Realized I'm posting kind of random, short thoughts.

Mike Bickle did preach at Morningstar not long ago. I listened in that night and loved what he had to say. He started IHOP. This does connect IHOP and Morningstar (in my head at least. ). The youtube above....NOT COOL. But it's not what I saw at Morningstar...at all. Not the attitude or atmosphere I picked up in any way. There was such a deep, passionate time of worship. The message was good and the ministry was so refreshing and amazing. God did some things that were extremely out of my comfort zone, but I know they were God and I'm ok with being stretched like He did that night, and really the entire weekend I was in North Carolina.

I'd tell anyone to run the other direction from anything like that youtube..and I'm trying to reconcile that with what I saw/heard/experienced while visiting that church.

Re: IHOP Baptizing in Jesus Name

Mike Bickle is chummy with Morningstar. I will be watching where he goes from here with them. My thing has been to judge him for where he is now not what happened before. Im all for the young people at IHOP. I HOPE that Mike will not fail them and pray that Yeshua will lead him into more truth.

K. Then we're pretty much on the same page.

This Appendix does appear to have them correcting some of the things they had been criticized for practicing in the past.

The thing is, many of these guys get really excited about some "revelation" and enthusiastically preach it, but when their followers start to get in trouble for these same things the leadership comes out with a communique saying that they were "misunderstood."

I'm not saying that things can't change and that people don't learn from their mistakes - I hope they do and that we all do and can grow together. Just use your own good sense - like in all things such as Internet forums! - and remember that YOU are the one responsible for your relationship to God.

That was *awesome*. Thank you so much for sharing!

And, that's the attitude and atmosphere I found at Morningstar...far more than the video Scott posted. I know this is IHOP, but this is what worship was like, what the passion of the people seemed to be at Morningstar when I was there.
