And this is how that name came to be “Jesus” in English: Simply stated, this is the etymological history of the name Jesus: Hebrew/Aramaic yeshu‘a became Greek Iesous,
then Latin Iesus, passing into German and then, ultimately, into English, as Jesus.
Simply stating Yeshua is the source name....the original. The name used by his family and friends.

Yehoshua is like Joseph and Yeshua is like Joey? I must say I never heard that Jesus is short for Joshua. I guess the seventy Greek Jewish scholars who compiled the LXX, were in a hurry when they came to the book of Joshua.
Good grief.
Jesus tried and tested for over 2200 years and counting.
